Real Madrid announced that it has renewed the contract of Nacho Fernández for an additional season after making public the continuity of Toni Kroos the day before.
In a statement, the Merengue club informed that “Real Madrid C. F. and Nacho Fernández have agreed to extend the contract of our captain, who remains linked to the club until June 30, 2024.”
Nacho Fernandez, a versatile international defender, will begin his 13th year with Real Madrid’s first team, having made his debut in the Spanish soccer elite in 2011.
Nacho’s contract was scheduled to expire at the end of this month, but he had already announced last week, during his training camp with the Spanish national team, his intention to continue at the club with which he has been linked for 22 years, since joining the white youth academy at the age of 11.
In an interview with Spanish public television, Nacho said, “I’m going hand in hand with my club and my family. There are always offers from abroad, but I have decided to stay one more year. I am very happy with this decision.
The veteran player formed in Real Madrid’s youth academy has played 319 games for the club, accumulating an impressive 23 titles, including five Champions Leagues, three Leagues, five Club World Cups, and two Copa del Rey.
Nacho is also an international with the Spanish national team and has just won the Nations League.
The renewal of Nacho, who is 33 years old, comes on top of the recent official renewal for one more year of German midfielder Toni Kroos, thus consolidating the continuity of two key players in the Real Madrid team.
