An 11-year-old girl was the victim of a group sexual assault in a shopping mall in Badalona, Barcelona, when she was approached by six young men, one of whom had a knife. The Mossos’ Minors unit launched an investigation, and so far five of the alleged perpetrators have been identified, two of whom were arrested, while the other three are under 14 years of age.
The victim’s older sister has stated that her brother received messages on WhatsApp from a young man threatening to kill him when he left high school, which led to the identification and arrest of the alleged perpetrator for obstruction of justice and threats. The young man accused the victim’s brother of having been responsible for one of the two minors arrested being in a closed regime.
The magistrate of Juvenile Court 4 of Barcelona has ruled six months of internment in a closed regime for the young man accused of sending the death threats to the girl’s brother. The Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office had requested the internment after the young man testified before the court. In this way, he becomes the second minor to be interned in the framework of this case, since one of the alleged perpetrators of the gang rape is already in closed-regime custody.
The mayor of Badalona has announced that there is a sixth minor allegedly involved in the sexual assault. The victim’s family filed a complaint, which led to the two detainees being brought before the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office on February 14. A judge ordered one of them to be placed in a closed regime and the other on probation.
