Erling Haaland will not play in Norway’s upcoming matches against Spain and Georgia due to groin discomfort. The Manchester City striker had to leave his national team’s training camp after undergoing tests and medical examinations that confirmed he would not be fit to play. National team doctor Ola Sand explained that it was better for him to receive medical attention at his club.
The Norwegian coach Ståle Solbakken said that although Haaland felt bad when he realized he would not be able to fight for the team, he is confident that the group has enough grit, talent, and cohesion to score points in the upcoming matches. He added that they will continue to work hard to be as prepared as possible for Saturday and Tuesday’s games.
Haaland, who scored eight goals in two games last week, suffered the injury during the FA Cup match against Burnley. As a result, the 22-year-old will head to Manchester City to recover from groin discomfort.
While Haaland’s absence is a blow to the Norwegian national team, the news is not entirely surprising, as the player had suffered pain in the same area during several previous matches. The Norwegian national team doctors made the decision that it was best for Haaland to stay at the club to receive additional medical attention and properly recover from his injury.
Haaland’s absence will also be a significant loss for Manchester City, which has already lost several other key players to injury this season. The team will have to look for alternative solutions up front for the upcoming games without the young Norwegian striker.
