A huge iron ball has been found on Enshu Beach in the Japanese city of Hamamatsu, prompting local authorities to restrict access to the area. The sphere measures about 1.5 meters in diameter and has a kind of handle that would allow it to be attached to another element. In addition, it is hollow, as revealed by X-ray scans.
A woman found the object early in the morning of Tuesday, February 21, and called the police, who cordoned off the area and prevented anyone from approaching it. Experts have not yet determined what the object is, but an examination has revealed that there is no danger of an explosion. The Japan Self-Defense Forces and coast guard experts are analyzing photographs sent to them, and it is suspected that it may be a mooring buoy from a ship that broke loose. Although the object has not yet been identified, it is possible that it is something ordinary, like a ship’s mooring buoy.
However, the origin of the sphere has yet to be determined with certainty, which has generated a great deal of excitement in Japan and been the subject of much speculation. Some local media have indicated that it could be a gas tank or a space object, although these theories have not been confirmed by the authorities.
Local authorities have asked citizens to stay away from the area while the investigation is being carried out, as the object could pose a danger to public safety. They have also warned that anyone finding unknown objects on the beach should immediately report them to the authorities.
This is not the first case of unknown objects appearing on Japanese shores. In 2017, a series of similar objects were found on different beaches in the country, which generated great controversy and concern among the population.
On that occasion, authorities discovered that they were the remains of a North Korean spacecraft that had disintegrated upon entering the Earth’s atmosphere. The incident highlighted the risks that can be posed by space objects falling to Earth, as well as the need for adequate safety measures to deal with such situations.
