A producer at Fox News has filed lawsuits against the network, claiming that its lawyers forced her to provide false testimony in Dominion Voting Systems’ $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit. Abby Grossberg, who worked with Fox News hosts Tucker Carlson and Maria Bartiromo, alleges that the network’s lawyers “coerced, intimidated, and misinformed” her during deposition preparation sessions.
According to Grossberg’s lawsuit, Fox News lawyers reacted positively to her false and evasive answers during the sessions without informing her that she could be held liable for perjury. The lawsuit suggests that the lawyers were attempting to shift responsibility for the alleged defamation against Dominion onto Grossberg and her colleague Bartiromo rather than the network’s higher-ups who endorsed the lies against Dominion.
The Dominion Voting Systems’ defamation lawsuit is one of several filed against Fox News and other conservative media outlets for spreading false claims of election fraud in the 2020 US presidential election. Dominion has accused Fox News of airing “outrageous” and “demonstrably false” claims about the company, which have led to death threats against its employees and damage to its reputation.
Grossberg’s lawsuits, filed in New York and Delaware, suggest that Fox News may have engaged in unethical and possibly illegal conduct in its defense against Dominion’s lawsuit. Members of the activist group Rise and Resist held a demonstration outside Fox News headquarters in New York City on Tuesday in support of Grossberg and other whistleblowers who have come forward with similar allegations.
The lawsuits against Fox News highlight the ongoing controversy surrounding conservative media outlets and their role in spreading false information about the 2020 US presidential election. The lawsuits may also have broader implications for the media industry and the legal profession, as they raise questions about the responsibilities of lawyers and journalists to provide accurate and truthful information to the public.
