The remark was made after Iran murdered two more individuals, bringing the total number of people put to death as a result of the protests around the country to four.
The European Union expressed its “appalled” reaction to the news that Iran had killed two individuals on Saturday for the murder of a member of a paramilitary force amid demonstrations that were provoked by the death of a young woman while she was in detention.
Mohammad Mehdi Karami and Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini were arrested and sentenced to death in connection with the ongoing protests in Iran, according to a statement released by the spokesperson for the EU’s foreign affairs chief, Josep Borrell. “The EU is appalled by the execution of Mohammad Mehdi Karami and Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini,” said the spokesperson.
He stated that this is another example of the harsh repression of citizen demonstrations by the Iranian authorities. “This is yet another sign,” he remarked.
“The European Union once again calls on the Iranian authorities to immediately end the heinous practise of issuing and carrying out death sentences against protesters,” the EU said in a statement.”We name this practise the death penalty, and we demand for it to end.”
The announcement was made after Iran carried out the deaths of two more men, bringing the total number of executions related to the statewide rallies to four. Since the middle of September, the protests have intensified into calls for the collapse of Iran’s clerical rule.
In December, two individuals were executed, which sparked anger all around the world and led to fresh sanctions against Iran from the West.
As a result of the wave of protests that began after the murder of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini while she was in detention in September, the authorities have arrested thousands of individuals.
The Iranian Kurdish woman had been detained by morality police on suspicion of violating the regime’s stringent clothing code for women, which had led to her incarceration.
