Parton is set to release her 49th album, “Rockstar,” on November 17th, featuring nine original tracks and 21 renditions of classic rock and pop hits, including “Let It Be,” as stated in an announcement on her official website. The website also offers a preview of her new version of the iconic Beatles composition.
“There’s nothing better than singing ‘Let It Be’ with Paul McCartney, who not only wrote it but also plays it on the piano! And even better: Ringo Starr joined in on drums, Peter Frampton on guitar, and Mick Fleetwood on percussion,” Parton shared on her portal, following reports from specialized media outlets like Billboard and Variety that unveiled the news on Friday.
“How can you top that? Thank you so much, guys!” Parton celebrated, extending her gratitude to the 76-year-old British drummer and co-founder of Fleetwood Mac, Mick Fleetwood, and the 73-year-old American-British guitarist Peter Frampton.
According to Billboard, bringing together Paul McCartney (81 years old) and Ringo Starr (83) to perform a song from the renowned Liverpool group is an accomplishment only Parton could achieve. The two British musicians rarely collaborate, having done so in 2020 for a Starr song and in 2019 during a McCartney concert.
The song “Let It Be” is part of the album of the same name released in May 1970, the final album of the “Fab Four” before announcing their breakup in April of that year.
In their ten-year joint career, Paul McCartney, John Lennon (assassinated in December 1980 in New York at the age of 40), George Harrison (who passed away in November 2001 at the age of 58), and Ringo Starr ignited “Beatlemania” worldwide, changing the course of modern music history. They produced a dozen albums that collectively sold nearly a billion copies and starred in several internationally successful films.
Billboard reports that “Rockstar,” with its 30 tracks, marks Parton’s foray into the rock genre. Born into a modest family in Tennessee, she is considered a “national treasure” of country music.
With 3,000 recorded songs and 100 million records sold, Parton was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the American pantheon of rock and popular music, in November of the previous year.
“Rockstar” also features collaborations with other renowned artists such as Elton John, Sting, John Fogerty, Pat Benatar, Steven Tyler (Aerosmith’s lead singer), Simon LeBon (lead vocalist of Duran Duran), and American rapper Lizzo. Her website showcases performances of Queen hits like “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions.”
