Second-seeded Djokovic cruised to a victory over 76th-ranked Zapata by a score of 6-4, 6-1, 6-1 in a two-hour matchup on Center Court at Flushing Meadows in New York.
The outstanding Serbian tennis player, known as ‘Nole’, secured his place in the third round of the US Grand Slam tournament for the 17th time in his career. Djokovic, who is on pace to reclaim the top spot in the ATP rankings at the end of the tournament, moved forward with confidence and will face compatriot Laslo Djere for a place in the round of 16. Djere, ranked 38th in the world and with two ATP titles in his history, is shaping up to be his next challenge.

Djokovic acknowledged that the heat and humidity complicated the first set but highlighted how the change in weather conditions positively affected his game during the match.
Djokovic shared his reflections on the match, mentioning that although he didn’t start at his best level, he managed to elevate it in the following sets and was pleased to win in two straight sets. Despite his success in the tournament so far, Djokovic mentioned that he can still improve his performance and highlighted his physical ability despite his age, joking about his mobility on the court despite being 36 years old.
The Serbian tennis player expressed his joy at returning to New York after not having participated last year due to his position on vaccination against the coronavirus. Djokovic revealed that the atmosphere and passion of the city motivated him to continue competing and highlighted his desire to continue playing on that stage.
