The United States was behind the explosions on the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines last September. This is according to Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Seymour Hersh. Specifically, the prestigious reporter points to the actions of the US Navy.
Hersh is not just any journalist. A former New York Times and New Yorker reporter, he has won numerous awards for his investigative journalism, including on the Vietnam War and the 2004 Abu Ghraib scandal following the U.S. invasion of Iraq.
Hersh’s article, published on his website, is based on the account of an anonymous national security source “with direct knowledge of operational planning,” he claims.
The journalist affirms that those responsible for the alleged sabotage are US Navy divers, who, according to him, placed explosives during NATO maneuvers. He also points the finger at Norway. He accuses the Norwegian authorities of activating the charges filed by the American divers months later.
“Two months later, they destroyed three of the four branches of the pipeline,” Hersh wrote.
The US government has immediately dismissed Hersh’s writing. “This is a completely false fiction,” said Adrienne Watson, spokeswoman for the White House National Security Council. The CIA and State Department both responded in the same way.
“This is a completely false fiction,” says the White House.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has immediately spoken out. Its spokesmen say that, following Hersh’s report, the US has questions to answer about its role in the pipeline explosions.
