This week, social media has been rocked by the appearance of an Instagram account, @iammadeleinemcann, belonging to a 21-year-old Polish woman who claims to be the British girl who disappeared in Portugal in 2007 and whose whereabouts were never known. Julia Faustyna, who is the same age as Madeleine would currently be, requests a DNA test to corroborate or disprove her theory after years of confusion and mistreatment, having hopped from one shelter to another.
During the search for Madeleine, the girl’s parents hired the services of the Spanish detective agency “Método 3,” whose founder, Francisco Marco, has spoken this week in various media about Maddie’s alleged appearance. Marco has admitted to having carried out a small biometric study to compare the physical features of the young Polish girl with those of the missing girl, but he does not have enough scientific evidence to validate Faustyna’s story.
Marco suspects fraud but cannot say so without concrete evidence. Madeleine’s family would be willing to conduct a DNA test to continue the search for their missing daughter. So far, no progress has been made in the investigation to confirm or rule out the veracity of the young Polish woman’s claims, which have caused a great sensation on the internet and in the media.
