The entertainment world is mourning the departure of Xavier López Miranda, better known as “Chabelo,” who passed away at the age of 88 due to abdominal complications. The family of the renowned actor confirmed the sad news through the presenter’s official social networks, where they asked for respect and privacy to be able to go through this painful moment in peace.
Born in Chicago, United States, on February 17, 1935, Xavier López moved with his parents to León, Guanajuato, Mexico, where he later obtained his nationality. From a young age, he showed his interest in Greco-Roman wrestling, a discipline in which he excelled, and he became part of the team that would represent Mexico in the Olympic Games in Helsinki. However, his dream of participating in the competition was frustrated due to a lack of financial resources to pay for his trip.
Afterwards, López studied medicine and worked in the management of a private sanatorium, but his passion for television led him to enter the world of show business, where he would become one of Mexico’s most emblematic presenters. During his extensive career, which spanned almost six decades, “Chabelo” stood out as an actor, comedian, singer, businessman, and television host.
One of Lopez’s greatest achievements was his iconic show “En familia con Chabelo,” which ran continuously for more than forty years and earned him a Guinness World Record. The program, which was aimed at the whole family, was characterized by the participation of children and adults in fun contests, such as the famous “Catafixia,” in which participants had the opportunity to win various prizes.
The farewell to “En familia con Chabelo” came in November 2015, when López publicly announced that the program would come to an end after four decades. The last episode aired on December 20 of that same year, leaving a void on Mexican television and in the hearts of his followers.
In addition to his successful show business career, Lopez also amassed a significant fortune, estimated to exceed $10 million dollars. His wealth not only consists of his monetary wealth but also includes several properties in Mexico and Miami.
Chabelo’ López will be remembered as one of the great icons of Mexican television and as a benchmark for comedy and family entertainment. His departure leaves a void in the entertainment world, but his legacy will live on forever in the memories of his fans.
