The statement made by Joe Biden came after Vladimir Putin gave instructions to the Russian defence minister, Sergey Shoigu, to impose a truce in Ukraine.
On Thursday (local time), US Vice President Joe Biden stated that his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin is “trying to find some oxygen” with the ceasefire order in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine. Biden made this statement.
The statement made by Biden comes after Vladimir Putin gave Sergey Shoigu, the head of the Russian defence ministry, orders to call for a ceasefire in Ukraine from January 6 to January 7. According to the article from CNN, he expressed scepticizm over the ceasefire that had been ordered by Putin in Ukraine for Orthodox Christmas services on January 6–7.
“It is difficult for me to reply to anything Putin has to say.” It piqued my interest for sure. On December 25 and January 1, as well as hospitals, nurseries, and churches, he was planning to bomb these places. Joe Biden, the Vice President of the United States, was quoted as saying that on CNN.
After that, he went on to say, “I mean, I think he’s trying to locate some oxygen.”
According to a statement that was published on the Kremlin website, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Wednesday that the ceasefire would make it possible for Orthodox Christians to attend Christmas services at their churches. According to Putin’s statement, the decision was made after Patriarch Kirill issued a demand for a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine.
The statement that was published on the Kremlin website said, “Taking into consideration the appeal of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill, I instruct the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation to introduce, from 12:00 on January 6, 2023, until 24:00 on January 7, 2023, a ceasefire along the entire line of contact between the parties in Ukraine.”
“Based on the fact that a large number of citizens who profess Orthodoxy live in the combat areas, we call on the Ukrainian side to declare a ceasefire and give them the opportunity to attend services on Christmas Eve as well as on the Day of the Nativity of Christ,” the statement continued. “We ask that this be done so that they may celebrate Christmas Eve and the Day of the Nativity of Christ.”
Following the announcement made by Putin, the assistant to the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Mykhailo Podolyak, issued a tweet in which he stated that Russian military forces must leave the seized territories of Ukraine and then call a “temporary truce.” He emphasized that Ukrainian forces do not invade other countries’ land and murder civilians.
Mykhailo Podolyak posted a tweet that said, “To begin, Ukraine does not invade other countries and does not target civilians in its military operations,” as RF does. Only personnel of the occupying army are targeted for elimination in Ukraine’s military operations… Second, the RF must withdraw from the territory it has captured; only then can there be a “temporary truce” between the two sides. “Don’t bring hypocrisy into the conversation.”
