US President Joe Biden plans to nominate Charles Brown, the current chief of staff of the US Air Force, as the new chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Politico reported, citing unnamed sources. Although not officially announced, sources say Brown would succeed Mark Milley. It is unknown when the official announcement will be made. A spokesman for the National Security Council stated that the president will brief the selectee before making the public announcement.
If Brown is named chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, his top military priority would be China, but he would also seek to balance the situation with war support for Ukraine, according to Politico. Brown has extensive experience in senior military positions, including chief of US Central Command Air Forces in the Middle East, director of strategic deterrence and nuclear integration operations for Air Forces Europe, and commander of Air Forces Pacific Command. In August 2020, he was appointed chief of staff of the US Air Force.
In short, Joe Biden plans to appoint Charles Brown as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, replacing Mark Milley. Brown has extensive experience in senior military positions and, if appointed, would focus on the relationship with China and support for Ukraine. Although not officially announced, Biden is expected to brief the selectee before making the public announcement.
