The American artist dethroned Hungarian-British orchestra conductor Georg Solti at the 65th Grammy Awards 2023, which took place this Sunday at the Crypto Arena in Los Angeles, by receiving her 32nd Grammy on February 5, 2023.
The four titles won by the singer were: “Best Dance Recording,” “Best R&B Song,” “Best Dance Album,” and “Best Traditional R&B Performance.”
Beyonce led the nominations with nine categories, followed by Kendrick Lamar (8), Adele (7), Brandi Carlile (7), Mary J. Blige (6), DJ Khaled (6), Future (6), Terius “The Dream” Gesteelde-Diamant (6), Randy Merrill (6), and Harry Styles (6).
However, not everything went as expected. Beyoncé was unpunctual for her big night. The queen of pop music showed that, just like us, she is flesh and blood and can also be a victim of the cruel Los Angeles traffic.
Forty minutes had passed when she was called on stage to pick up the award for best rhythm and blues song for Cuff It. It was legendary Chic guitarist Niles Rodgers, a collaborator on her hit song, who took the stage on her behalf.
“I’m surprised traffic can stop you,” Trevor Noah, the gala’s emcee, told Beyoncé when she finally arrived several minutes later.
In the midst of so many awards, Beyoncé said on stage that she was trying not to get too emotional. We are talking about a historic and unparalleled achievement.
She thanked her family, especially her uncle Jonny, an influential figure who helped raise her and her sister and who was a great asset in her artistic and personal life.
