China’s special representative for Eurasian affairs, Li Hui, met in Moscow with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and affirmed that China will maintain dialogue with all parties involved in the Ukrainian conflict and will strive to resolve the crisis through diplomacy. According to the statement issued by the Chinese Foreign Ministry, based on the peace plan presented by China last February, China will intensify exchanges and dialogue with all parties to the conflict, including Russia, and make concrete efforts to find a political solution.
Li Hui noted that China has always followed the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, maintained an objective and fair stance, and actively promoted peace negotiations. He stressed that China is on the “right side of history” in firmly pursuing peace and dialogue and that its stance is based on the importance of the issue.
In addition to the meeting with Lavrov, Li Hui also held separate talks with Russian Deputy Foreign Ministers Andrei Rudenko and Mikhail Galuzin, exchanging views on bilateral relations.
The Russian side appreciated China’s sincere wishes and practical efforts to promote a peaceful solution to the crisis and praised Chinese President Xi Jinping’s ideas on the conflict in Ukraine.
Prior to his visit to Moscow, Li Hui traveled to Kyiv, Warsaw, Paris, Berlin, and Brussels in an attempt to pave the way for a cessation of hostilities.
