Last Thursday, a landslide occurred in the Racha, Georgia, region, known for its tourist resorts. Shortly after the incident, two bodies were found, and on Friday, another four were found, according to press releases issued by the Georgia Ministry of Interior.
In the disaster zone, specifically in the municipality of Oni, the rescue teams continue to work hard in the search operations. So far, six bodies have been found, and according to Infrastructure Minister Irakli Karseladze, there are 35 missing people who could not be contacted.
The landslide occurred near a hotel in Shovi, a small resort located in the mountains of the Racha region. As a consequence, damage to cabins, power lines, roads, and bridges has been reported.
Nearly 400 firefighters and members of different police units participate in the rescue tasks, and so far they have managed to evacuate 140 people, according to what was reported by the Ministry of the Interior.
The situation is delicate, and an intense search is ongoing to locate the missing persons and provide assistance to those affected by this natural disaster. Rescue teams continue their tireless work to try to find the missing and mitigate the damage caused by the landslide in this tourist region of Georgia.
