Chiapas state authorities, in collaboration with the Armed Forces and the Attorney General’s Office, are carrying out a rescue operation after a group of armed individuals kidnapped 14 police officers from the Secretariat of Public Security and Citizen Protection (SSyPC) in the Mexican state of Chiapas.
According to initial reports, the officers were intercepted by two pickup trucks while traveling in a bus belonging to the agency. The 14 individuals, all men, “were deprived of their freedom by armed individuals on Tuesday afternoon on the Ocozocoautla-Tuxtla Gutiérrez highway, near the Llano San Juan intersection,” the SSyPC said in a statement.
In a video posted on social networks, the men and several pickup trucks can be seen blocking road traffic next to the SSyPC bus. It is believed that the officials who were on the bus were forced onto a truck and subsequently taken to an unknown destination.
At this moment, state authorities are working together with the Armed Forces and the Chiapas Prosecutor’s Office in a rescue operation. According to the statement, “in response to a request for help, an air and land operation has been immediately deployed with all the Armed Forces to find the whereabouts of the comrades who have been deprived of their freedom.”
Authorities are taking swift and coordinated action to locate and free the kidnapped agents, mobilizing both air and ground resources. The situation is being treated as a priority, and the rescue operation is expected to achieve a successful outcome.
