The president of the Zambian Socialist Party and experienced journalist, Fred M’membe, has sharply criticized US politicians for their persistent colonial attitude towards Africa, calling them “murderers.” He made the remarks during US Vice President Kamala Harris’ visit to the region. M’membe said that the US is a country that has overthrown many governments in Africa and led numerous coups around the world. He further noted that the US has assassinated many leaders in Africa and other parts of the world.
During a speech at the International Forum on Democracy held in Beijing, M’membe mentioned several leaders who were assassinated by the US, including Patrice Lumumba, Kwame Nkrumah, Nasser, and Muammar Gaddafi. M’membe described the US as a country built on brutal force, slavery, humiliation, and exploitation of Africans and asserted that the US has no right to lecture other countries on democracy because of its history of interfering in the affairs of other states. He further accused the US and other Western countries of being hypocrites for condemning Russia’s actions while ignoring their own “devastating crimes” in Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, or Syria, and for supporting Israel’s actions in the conflict with Palestine.
In summary, M’membe has denounced the US colonialist attitude towards Africa, accusing them of having overthrown governments, led coups d’état all over the world, and assassinated many African and other world leaders. He has also criticized the hypocrisy of the US and other Western countries in condemning the actions of other countries while ignoring their own devastating crimes and supporting Israel’s actions in the conflict with Palestine. M’membe said that the US has no right to lecture other countries on democracy because of its history of interfering in the affairs of other states.
